Waste in the Workplace- A Primer

© Pete Ewins / WWF-Canada

The everyday activities of businesses, organizations and employees can create a significant amount of corporate waste. Improving your office waste management can have positive impacts on the environment since waste that is sent to landfill or incinerated creates harmful land, water and air pollution and damages natural habitats.

Waste management can also help your organization’s bottom-line. Waste management represents up to 4% of a business or organization’s costs. The amount of waste an organization generates relates to purchases required for business operations, such as office supplies or furniture, and is also affected by the type of packaging used. By reducing the waste generated from business purchases, you can also reduce costs. This resource will help you in reducing waste and building the case for waste management in the office.
